January is over, and for many of us, so are our new year resolutions. I think that it is because we tend to make radical changes that feel too different or sudden. Instead, I believe you should make smalls changes that slowly will add up, especially when it comes to healthy habits. Here's 5 habits to add in your routine that will make wonders for your body and skin!
Water, lemon water and green tea!
Water. Boring right? Well, there is a reason why this solution always come back. IT WORKS! Since our body are primarly made of water, you need water to flush out the toxins, i.e. detoxify your system. But to spice it up, there are two alternatives that works wonders. Lemon water contains citric acid which enhances the body's ability to flush out toxins. It also stimulate the liver to filter out unwanted toxins, so it's especially great if you had too much alcohol during the holidays. Green tea is also a great alternative because it has many benefits. Although it does not directly detoxify your body, it does support your liver by increasing the enzyme activity that will lead to the detox. Green tea does that because it is full of antioxydants that the livers needs. My personal favorite is Kusmi Tea Detox, which is a mix of green tea, maté and lemongrass.
Add some greens
The secret ingredients for glowing skin are... dark leafy greens! Remember when your mom used to tell you eat your greens? She had a point! This is because they are the richest food in nutrients, and particularly vitamin A that prevents aging, vitamin C that supports collagen production. So whether it is in your salads, juice, smoothies...use and abuse them!
Whether you are an athlete or a couch potato, stretching is a great addition your routine. It decreases stress, relieves tension, improve blood circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system. Start with 5 to 10 minutes a day, and if you are ready to take a step further, find a yoga or pilates class!
When it comes to beauty, what you put inside matters a lot. But when it's not enough, masks come to the rescue. I use them once to twice a week, sometimes more depending on my skin conditions. I love them because they are the easiest quick fix. The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask by Peter Thomas Roth is a 3 in 1 that exfoliates, polishes and resurfaces the skin. It contains AHA, therefore it is not the best pick for very sensitive skin. If it's your case and you need to purify your skin, the Caudalie Instant Detox is your pick. However, for those who need are suffering from dehydration and dream of radiance, Lush BB Seaweed is one of my all time favorite masks. I like to use it like an intensive cure and apply it everyday, until you are happy with your skin.
Just because we needed another excuse... When you sleep, your body produces human growth hormone, which leads to collagen production. This is crucial to skin and hair repair. The body also produces melatonin, an anti-oxydent hormones that protects the skin. Your muscles also relaxe, which gives to the skin its deepest recovery. So don't skip on your beauty sleep!
