Beauty is attractive because it is also an image for healthy. Lustrous hair, perfect skin and long nails are beautiful indeed but they are also the consequence of a healthy lifestyle. But it's not always easy to keep up. When our lifestyles get out of control (and it can happen to everyone), it is hard to get all the nutrients our bodies need. To save time we get tempted eating unhealthy snack.

These 4 supplements have been part if my diets for several months now and here's why it should be in yours too:

1. Flaxseeds

Picture
Two table spoons (14gr) of flaxseeds contains 133% of your recommended daily intake for omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to brain and heart health! They are also rich in fiber, vitamin B1 (helps metabolize fats and proteins) and help reduce inflammation.

You can use the full seeds, ground seeds and even get flaxseeds bread. I like to add to my muffins, oatmeal, quinoa, rice... Just sprinkle them in any dish.

2. Chia Seeds

Picture
28 grams / 1oz of chia seeds are also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, but they also contain an incredible amount of calcium (18 of the RDA), manganese (30% of the RDA), magnesium (30% of the RDA) and phosphorus (27% of the RDA). Chia seeds are a great source of protein too (4 grams per 1 oz), which makes it  a great supplement for vegans and vegetarians!

Again, I like to use them in any dish and even add them to my protein shake for a boost. Chia seeks have the particularity of absorb between 9-12 times their volume in liquids, in under 10 minutes. This is a great way to thicken your oatmeal or cake dought for example. You can even create chia pudding by mixing chia seeds with your favorite liquid base (almond milk is good) and adding any flavor you like (think cinnamon and apple, cocoa powder and coconut..)

3. MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane)

Behind this scary long name is an organic sulfur compound. Sulfur is extremely important to the human body and its health, especially for detoxification purpose. This is because sulfur is essential to the production of glutathione, a body antioxidant that can remove heavy metals and toxins we are exposed to.
Another great benefit of sulfur is for skin and hair, because the sulfur from MSM can produce collagen and keratin, which preserve skin's elasticity, keep strong nail and accelerate hair growth.

I personally use MSM powder and I add it to my daily oatmeal for breakfast, protein shakes and smoothies. You can also mix it to water or just get pills.

4. Moringa Leaf Powder

Picture
Moringa Tree Leaves (Moringa Oleifera) has been part of India's traditional Ayurveda medicine, treating around 300 diseases. It is one of the best nutritional supplement you can get, with around 20 types of amino-acids, 46 antioxidants, 36 anti-inflammatory compounds and more than 90 nutrients!
Since it can be diffulcut to get fresh Moringa, leaves, you can still get the benefits of this superfood and get the leaf powder. 30 grams of Moringa Powder provides (% RDA)
  • 60% of calcium (great for people who are lactose-intolerant, allergic to dairy or vegan)
  • 37% of magnesium
  • 84% of iron (great for women who tend to have anemia)
  • 163% of vitamin A (for immunity and healthy vision)
  • 52% of vitamin B2 (helps metabolize iron, produce red blood cells and recycle glutathione, the antioxidant from MSM)
  • 361% of vitamin B3 (helps breaking down carbohydrate, fats and proteins into energy and improve digestion)
  • 226% of vitamin E (strong antioxidant ant against free radicals, for immunity and healthy blood vessels)
  • 12.8% (=8.1 grams) of protein (great for vegetarians & vegans)
Impressive, right? Yes, it doesn't taste very good but it is so rich in nutritional benefits.
