I have been suffering from a terrible eye allergy for the past week, and as I treating it, I told myself I could write about how I deal with them.

The below products mentioned are the one I use when I have a crisis and if you are going through any or if you just have sensitive skin, you might want to check them!  I have always been suffering from multiple allergies and sensitive skin, although they got more severe the past three years. I use some of these products on a regular basis too because they suits my sensitive skin. I am not a doctor though, so if you are having a very serious reactions or severe burning, you must see a doctor! Allergies must be taken seriously.

If a cosmetic products gave you an allergy, you have to immediately throw it away and switch to calming and very specific products.

  • Eye allergy
Stop using any eye creams or makeup for a while. To calm the irritated area you can use:
    1. SVR Laboratories Topialyse eyelid cream : I use this every time I have a bad conjunctivitis/eczema around the eye. If it burns a little when you apply it, don't be scared. This only means it is working.
    2. Avène Soothing Eye Contour cream : this is also a great eye cream to use but it won't do as much as the SVR for severe cases. It is also a good option to use on a daily basis if you have sensitive eyes.
I have chronicle conjunctivitis that irritates my eye contour, and I use SVR during my crisis (prescribed by my allergist). However if you are having a conjunctivitis, please see a ophthalmologist first.

  • Face allergy
Same rule apply, avoid any make-up and fancy skin care. The following products are made for allergic and sensitive skins:
    1. La Roche Posay Toleriane Fluide Dermo-Nettoyant : You will still have to cleanse your skin every day. This milk is ultra gentle and will allow you to get rid of any pollution and dirt despite your sensitive skin.
    2. Avène Eau Thermale spray : A must-have all year long. Whenever you feel too hot, or your skin burn or it is irritating you, just spray this. Spring water has natural calming property so it will only do you good. You can also include it in your skin care routine, especially if you have dehydrated skin.
    3. Avène Tolerance Extrême cream : The first great thing about this cream is the minimal list of ingredients, perfect for sensitive skin but still hydrating enough. Second, the patented delivery system completely sterile which prevent any risk of retro-contamination.
    4. A-Derma Epitheliale A.H. cream : This is my latest discovery and I am so glad I made it. I used to purchase their shower gel and I decided to try this cream. It is very polyvalent (you can use it on your eyes, face, lips or body) and instantly soothe and calm irritated skins. A new favorite that I will keep in my bag for emergencies...

You are having an allergic reaction to a skincare or makeup product, but you don't know which one?

If your products are still brand new, you have to do what is called an elimination process: stop using any cosmetics products (switch to specialized items that I will list below). When your skin starts calming down (let's say after a week or two), slowly reintroduce your products, one by one to see which one is causing you the reaction.

You are having a reaction around the eyes

In this case, our mascara or concealer (or any other eye products) are probably the culprit. Remember to not keep such products for too long (check my article on how long you should keep your cosmetics). If it is brand new, you can blacklist the product and if this is recurrent, try using makeup or skin care without perfume (usually luxury brands loads their products with fragrances) and switch to brands like EyeCare or Avène.
You might also develop an allergy because of your nail polish. If you notice reaction around your eyes and mouth, this may be a sign since they are in contact with your nails. In this case, remove the polish for a while too and try to notice any change.

I hope this article helped you, and if you have any other questions or request, please don't hesitate to contact me!
