Despite the different haircut trends, most girls and women dream of luscious, long and healthy hair. Like a princess (maybe because Disney gave us unrealistic expectations about hair?)
What if I tell you the best treatment for your hair is actually in your...kitchen? Although it seems disgusting for some people, the best ingredients for your hair is EGGS. Yes dears.
I can already see your faces (just like the face my friends makes when I tell them I put eggs on my hair). What you need to understand is why eggs are so effective. Hair are 70% made of protein (keratin) while one single egg contains 3.6 to 6.5 g of proteins.  Because of their high amount in protein, eggs manages to fill the weakened spot of hair and strengthen it. This is actually no secret because our grandmothers and great grandmothers probably used this tip too.
In addition to the eggs, we use oil to moisture. Your hair produce naturally its own moisture, sebum. When your hair is too dry, it is because the sebum production is dysfunctional so that is why you need to add more moisture.
I have had long hair for years and this recipe is part of my routine to maintain the length and strength of my curly hair.

My go-to egg recipe is olive oil, coconut oil and three eggs. Most people will only need one egg, two if they are long. You don't have to use the same oils, you can use your favorite oil (jojoba, argan, palm etc.). I don't have any measurement for the oil, I just see the consistency of the mixture but you will need around one to two tablespoon per egg.

I do this mask approximatively every 6 weeks and it really helps maintain my hair health.

  1. In a bowl, mix the egg(s) and the oil(s), as if you wanted to prepare an omelet. You want to obtain a smooth and homogenous texture
  2. Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo in order to allow the treatment to penetrate. Don't use any shampoo containing silicones for they coat the hair and will prevent the mask properties to penetrate the hair.
  3. Apply the mask on your hair and insist on the ends.
  4. Wrap your hair with a hot towel and leave the mask for 30 minutes. The heat will open your hair follicules allowing a deep treatment.
  5. Rince with warm water. For extra shine, you can add one table spoon of apple cider vinegar in a small bottle of water and rince your hair one last time with it. Apple cider vinegar will get rid of the last residues.
This is a very intense treatment that you should not do more often than once a month. The rest of the time you can still deep condition as explained in this post.
