My friends often ask me how I take care of my hair. I have long curly hair (type 3b) and since my very young age, my mother taught me how to take good care of them. My mother was also blessed with very long hair too (down to waist), and so was my grandmother (her mother) who had her hair down…to knees! Our secret? Weekly oil masks, also called deep conditioning. I know for most of you it may sound gross to put oil on your hair but such treatment is my I-can’t-live-without.
To apply the oil, you should start with your scalp and massage it, then the rest of the hair. Depending on your hair (and your time), you can leave it from one to several hours with a warm towel wrapped on your hair. The heat will allow the oil to penetrate your hair deep inside their structure.
If your hair is damaged I recommend leaving the treatment overnight for better result. In this case, do not forget to protect your pillow by using a silk scarf (and not cotton because it naturally absorbs the moisture and the oil). Then you can wash your hair as usual and after several time, I am sure you will notice how smoother, shiner and healthier your hair will be.
I realize that this may not seem very convenient but it is a small sacrifice to get beautiful hair. If your chose to leave it for a couple of hours, you can still do a thousand things at home, like reading or watching a movie.

You can also combine these oils together depending on your preferences. I particularly recommend this for dry hair, curly & frizzy hair and long hair (to prevent split ends). However, you have to be consistent and patient to start seeing result, but I guarantee this is better than any commercial masks you will ever buy!
